To reach the house by public transport, travel from Norwich to Sheringham by train (The Bittern Line) and then take the Coasthopper bus to the village of Weybourne.
Weybourne (with store and pub) is within walking distance and access to the beach is 400m in either direction along the cliff (a 10 minute walk).
The cottage is directly on the Norfolk Coast Path, which passes around the cottage, so is easily accessible (in either direction).
The closest supermarket is Tesco in Sheringham. Sheringham also has a range of other amenities including petrol station, a laundromat, rail link to Norwich and an indoor pool and leisure centre – The Reef.
Truly idyllic! We loved going to sleep and waking up to the sounds of the sea. What a lovely cottage and setting. We swam (lots) walked along the coastal path to Sheringham (and back). The only negative was having to leave!

Some of our favourite things
- Playing on the beach at low-tide.
- Walking along the cliff top to the Sheringham ‘look out’ and back.
- Brunch in the Georgian market town of Holt, moodling about the shops and getting in supplies.
- Walking to Sheringham and taking the steam train (The Poppy Line) back to Weybourne.
- Fish and chips from the Sheringham Trawler, followed by ice cream from Ronaldos.
- The ‘loop walk’ through Repton’s Sheringham Great Park, a beautiful 9km return journey from the front door – check the train timetable so that you are on the grass bridge as the steam train passes underneath (a thrill at any age!).
- Venturing further afield to surf school in Cromer or to wander in the vast expanse of Holkham Beach.
- In the meadow behind the house, there is a concrete base that was a WW1 gun platform – we call it ‘The Castle’ and it’s the perfect place to watch the sun go down.
Ideas for eating out
- For lunch, we would go to the Wiveton Café.
- Or take the Coasthopper bus (or make a day of it and walk) to Rocky Bottoms.
- For fish & chips try The Sheringham Trawler.
- The Ship in Weybourne does good pub food and a has a wide range of gins.
- There is also great pub food at The Hunworth Bell (a magnificent Sunday roast), Wiveton Bell (with lovely outdoor seating!) and The Carpenters Arms.
- For a nice dinner, we would go to Number 10 in Sheringham.
Thank you for allowing us to stay in your wonderful cottage. Some people say that location is everything, and it is truly exceptional. But there is so much more; the homeliness, your thoughtfulness, the excellent artwork – I’ve loved it all. I really hope that I’ll be allowed back!
